My Zen Garden Design

As part of my web programming class, I was introduced to the CSS Zen Garden.  The concept is this: you take an existing HTML file with no styling, and by using CSS only, turn it into a completely styled website.  Take a look at how I did for my first CSS website! (more…)

Great information goes to waste

Is your message heard?

Basketball player shooting the ball the wrong wayToday in class it dawned on me that some of the greatest, most credible information is relatively unavailable.  Scholars write in journals which are more than likely read only by other scholars who are researching to write about a similar topic.  Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems that most people dont pick up journals to read for  fun.  Obviously, these journals are written to a specific audience for specific reasons, but I wonder if they’ve ever considered whether that audience is correct.  I wonder if they have considered who would benefit most from the message they have to share. Gaining the trust of online customersUsually, people would credit a great web design, nice photos, or other more obvious pieces of a website with generating customer trust.  While each of these factors may contribute to the generation of trust, they are probably not the most significant factors. Listed are some new insights I gained today regarding the gaining the trust of online customers. BYU-Hawaii Homepage Redesign

Creative Portfolio, Featured on January 21st, 2010 View Comments

Over the last 9 months, I have been working as a part of our university’s web team. We have just rolled out a new design/structure of our website. This project was way overdue, and we’ve had to work through some difficult challenges, but we have created a great product.

My “title” in this project was “project manager”. I was involved in the conception, planning, and marketing of the site. I also created the design for the page. Randy, our graphic designer, then modified the design and really made it shine! Here are some of the rapid prototypes that I created. You can probably tell which one was used for the final design! Naming the right price

Blog, Featured on June 14th, 2009 View Comments

One of my professors received an email from a student home for the summer who had been approached to do a graphic design job.  She asked for advice on how to come up with a quote.  She was more excited about the opportunity, not the price, but still wanted to give a good bid.  My professor asked me what I thought, and this is the email I responded with.  I hope this is helpful to others. Sprint logo reveal

Creative Portfolio, Featured on June 13th, 2009 View Comments
At work I have been tasked with our school’s website redesign.  In an effort to stay sharp in After Effects, I asked if it would be okay for me to spend some time experimenting, even though we currently have no need for motion graphics.  My boss said yes!
Here is my first 5 second animation.  I really like the logo reveal on the sprint commercials, so I set out to imitate that effect.  I was pleased with the result.  A tutorial will be posted on this as well.  It will most likely be featured on aetuts.com, but I will certainly link to it from my website.
